Konrad Gaertner

Konrad Gaertner wrote on October 23, 2007 at 8:57 PM:
And although I suspect there will eventually be an in-story reason for all lupi to be men, it bugs me now.

I've been meaning to write a post about how it is that many werewolf settings have gender ratios heavily biased towards males[1], and yet every single werewolf POV character (in a novel-length work[2]) I've seen so far has been female.

[1] Armstrong makes a big deal about Elena being the first female werewolf EVER, Briggs tells us women are much less likely to survive the Change, and while I don't think Vaughn has explicitly said so yet, I got a strong impression that there were only two female weres in Denver. Whitfield, Harris, Arthur, Butcher, Pratchett, and Lisle all seem to be balanced.

[2] Armstrong has written some shorter works with male POVs, and Brigg's forthcoming Cry Wolf will be half narrated by a man.

Kate

Kate wrote on October 23, 2007 at 9:04 PM:
There are three point-of-view characters in this book: Lily, Rule, and another male werewolf who is separated from the rest of the characters for most of the book.

Of the authors you list, I've only read Pratchett (and one Butcher novel), so I can't make any useful comment.
